Georgia Totto O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887 – March 6, 1986), American artist, the 'Mother of American Modernism,' authentic, vintage autographed post card with accompanying unsigned post card featuring a photograph of the iconic artist. Addressed to good friend and celebrated photographer Carl Van Vechten. Set of 2.

O'Keeffe first came to the attention of the New York art community in 1916. She made large-format paintings of enlarged blossoms, presenting them close up as if seen through a magnifying lens, and New York buildings, most of which date from the same decade. Beginning in 1929, when she began working part of the year in Northern New Mexico—which she made her permanent home in 1949—O’Keeffe depicted subjects specific to that area. O'Keeffe has been recognized as the Mother of American Modernism.

In 1962, O'Keeffe was elected to the fifty-member American Academy of Arts and Letters. She was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1966. In the fall of 1970, the Whitney Museum of American Art mounted the Georgia O'Keeffe Retrospective Exhibition, the first retrospective exhibition of her work in New York since 1946. This exhibit did much to revive her public career.

Van Vechten, the celebrated American writer and photographer, was the literary executor of Gertrude Stein and a key figure of the Harlem Renaissance movement. He captured iconic images of all the key members in the worlds of Art, Theater, Music, and Literature. Van Vechten viewed his photography as a hobby; he never took commissions, he never sold photographs. He would grant permission to publish them, but had strict requirements to do so. He was a prominent fixture in 20th century photography collections with his work being included in such institutions as The Library of Congress, The Museum of The City of New York and The Smithsonian Institution.

The vintage postcard has been signed "Georgia" with a brief note to her dear friend Carl Van Vechten. O'Keeffe pens "Indian Summer warm and lovely. I don't live in this hotel - I've bought a house and had a wonderful summer - Pinon nuts to you..." Written on the message side of a picture postcard of the iconic La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Bears a circular Santa Fe Oct. 13 1940, postal cancelation. Accompanied by an unsigned card featuring a photograph of the iconic artist. Each vintage card is in fine condition.
